Recently launched in Carrigaline, Co. Cork, the league promises top-tier competition and an unparalleled showcase of young showjumping talent; offering young riders in Munster and beyond an incredible opportunity to compete at top venues for top prizes.
The brainchild of Alan and Jennifer Molan with support from Lorraine O’Brien (O’Brien’s Saddlery), the series takes place between March and July and features three legs at their Carrigaline venue. Additional qualifying opportunities at Garranemore (Co. Limerick), Shanakill (Co. Waterford), and Mullingar (Co. Westmeath) will provide an expanded geographic reach; ensuring that a broad range of riders will have the opportunity to secure their place in the highly anticipated Grand Final at Maryville Stables on 27th July.
All courses at Maryville Stables will be designed by Gueorgui Gueorguiev, an FEI Level 3 Course Designer, who was present at the launch to discuss the technical challenges set for the competing 128cm, 138cm, and 148cm riders.
The Maryville Stables PSL has garnered overwhelming support from leading equestrian brands and supporters of young showjumping talent. League winners will vie for an array of top prizes, including a Samshield helmet, Freejump Stirrups, Freejump Air Vest, Freejump Voronoï ABS helmet, Horseware Amigo turnout rug, Alberto Fasciani long leather riding boots, a Coldstream show jacket, a bridle, reins and martingale from Demlay Equestrian, an Equine America Hamper, and a Mackey Ireland Hamper. Coldstream Equine, as part of its sponsorship, will award its new Newton Show Sheet to each class winner at the final. Additionally, Freejump will present a full set of stirrups, an air vest, and a helmet to children who compete in the Pony Super League 148cm classes and COH/Juniors classes and are subsequently selected for the European Children on Horses and Junior teams set to compete at Riesenbeck International (Germany) and the FEI Jumping European Championships for Ponies at Le Mans (France) later this summer.
At the launch in Maryville, Jerome Foley, Munster Representative on the SJI Pony Committee, remarked, “The Maryville Stables PSL is an exciting initiative and it will be a fantastic addition to the pony jumping calendar both in Munster and on a national level.”
Philip Horgan of Carleton Stables expressed his enthusiasm, stating“This is a very exciting venture, and we’re delighted to be a part of it. We spend most of the year travelling a minimum of three hours, so it’s fantastic to have an event like this in a top-class Cork venue.”
Davy Russell added, “We are all invested in the next generation, and the Maryville Pony Super League will give them a great platform to showcase their talents.”
With an outstanding €15,000 prize fund and a stellar lineup of prizes on offer, the Maryville Stables Pony Super League is appropriately named. Entries for all legs must be made through SJI Live, and pony/rider combinations will need at least one top five finish in an Open class or a double clear in a Novice class to qualify for the Grand Final. A minimum of three league appearances are required to be eligible for league prizes.
